What the service was

A proxy storefront backed by a botnet of compromised internet-connected devices; the U.S. Justice Department said customers rented access to pools of proxy IP addresses.

What happened

On June 16, 2022, the U.S. Justice Department said it and law-enforcement partners in Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom dismantled the infrastructure of the RSOCKS botnet.

The government source describes RSOCKS as a botnet-backed proxy service. That finding is specific to RSOCKS and is not a description of proxy services generally.

What this means for existing customers

ProxySP does not treat RSOCKS as an active provider. The cited Justice Department release establishes that its infrastructure was dismantled; it does not describe a customer refund or account-recovery process.
